So what is custom engraving? What does it offer and what options do you have? 

Below you will see the different styles of engravings, and some information about each of them and some of the limitations and options!

Laser engraving on wood is the typical style you see on the standard wood piece. 

Limitations:

  • Cannot anticipate how the grain will react to the laser
  • Depth of engraving is not always guaranteed
  • Can be slower, so may increase the cost.

Benefits:

  • Very high detail
  • Usually high contrast, depending on base material used. 

Laser engraving on laser can add a unique look to your product. 

Limitations:

  • Some Fine detail
  • Darken edges when cutting
  • color may vary in final result

Benefits:

  • Durable
  • Can get wet and not wash off
  • fine line detail

Custom Engraving in wood. In the photo above it is an example of what is called V-carving and flat carving. This allows you to get a different look depending on your needs.

Limitations: 

  • Remember you are cutting into a porous material, fine detail may chip out or break away.
  • Depending on the wood unless you stain or paint the carving it will be hard to read.

Benefits:

  • A lot of depth can be created.
  • High detail retainability.

Rotary Laser Engraving

Custom Rotary Engraving, This allows for permanent markings on round objects.

Limitations: 

  • Can not mark on bare metal cups/tumblers
  • On color cups/tumblers the color that is exposed will be the metal color.
  • If you scrub in one spot too long and hard you can soften the edges and lose detail. 

Benefits:

  • Permanent 
  • Highly impactful

Custom acrylic Engraving/Cutting is a great way to produce weather resistant items. 

Limitations: 

  • Acrylic can be brittle so fine detail may break off.
  • when engraving, the lines left behind by the laser may not be appealing to some.

Limitations: 

  • fragile material
